M.I.L.Fest

Thursday, June 30th, 2016

This year is the 10th Anniversary of MILFest and it’s going to be off the hook!!!  MILFest stands for Maryland Independent Label Festival.    Anyone who has ever been to MILFest before knows that it is just about the greatest day of music, vendors, food and drinks anyone could ask for.  All original bands, playing songs that they put their own sweat and tears into. The music starts mid afternoon and goes on both stages until 2:00am.  You may not know all the words to every song, but that doesn’t seem to matter to anyone there, they’re grooving just the same.  There are vendors selling everything from original artwork to vape juice/accessories to band merch.  The coed bikini contest is a blast for all!!!  The entire day is filled with people from all walks of life that just want to have a good time.  Rain or shine, this event packs the house.  This year being the 10 year Anniversary, Jay Slow of Jay Slow Entertainment has pulled out all the stops! National recording acts, Jimmy’s Chicken Shack and Ballyhoo! will be preforming as well as Pasadena, Bond &Bentley, Higher Education, Survival of The Sickest and many more.  This years event will be sponsered by Smirnoff Sourced, Artworx, 1710 Percussion, Danamae Scarborough photography, Blind Survival, Dawn or the Underground, Shockwave Magazine and many others.  Ticket prices are $18 advance/$22 at the gate.  All ages before 9pm/after 9pm 21+

To sushi or not to sushi

Thursday, June 23rd, 2016

Sushi is certainly the craze these days. White collar, blue collar, no collar, everyone loves sushi. However for people that haven’t quite jumped on the band wagon, sushi can be intimidating. You hear sushi and you instantly think raw fish and it can be kind of scary for us meat and potato eaters. After looking into it, I learned that it’s not just raw fish. Okay, that’s a step in the right direction but it’s still fish and seaweed right? Wrong again, you can have your sushi wrapped in soy paper and it’s not just fish, there’s shrimp, veggies and in Fish Head Cantina’s case, steak or chicken. Okay this is actually starting to sound good!!! So I tried it. I still don’t think my mother believes me but I loved it! It’s delicious and light and there are so many different ways to have it made! Not only that but now I feel like I’m a member of a special cool kids club, the proud sushi eaters of America! To some people trying new food is a given, but to the few rest of us, it can be terrifying! I’m so glad I took the plunge and hope that after reading this some of you will too!

Why we love the 90’s

Wednesday, June 15th, 2016

This Saturday is our 90’s party!!! Always one of the most fun events of the year, but this got us thinking, what is it about the 90’s that gets us so excited? Well let’s see..
The Music- for the particular individual writing this, Grunge was awesome! This was the beginning of a whole new style of music and fashion. Doc Martins with a flannel tied around your waist and (Always) a band name tee shirt. There were also boy bands galore as well as rock legends like Metallica (released 11 albums in the 90’s!!!). Music was everywhere and we all had blank cassette tapes cued up at all times for when our favorite songs came on the radio!!!
Technology- AOL, Microsoft, car phones, pagers, gameboys, discmans. You never knew what they’d come out with next! Today’s kids have no idea the excitement when the phone IN YOUR CAR rang!!!
Outdoors- We were still allowed to go outside and play all day! We spent all day out and about, in the woods or riding bikes or going from friends house to friends house raiding their kitchens like heathens. Our friends parents knew us and our parents knew our friends.
Television- Oh the TV shows! Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Friends, Martin, Martin, The Simpsons… I could go on for hours but I think we all get the point. TV was fun and did not always have a lesson to be learned with every show, it was for pure amusement! We would get the TV guide every week and read the previews of all of our favorite shows to see what crazy things our favorite characters were getting into.
All in all, those of us that really lived through the 90’s are so fortunate!!! Make sure you join us this Saturday for a true blast from the past!!! Live music, contests, prizes and drink specials. 7pm doors, 21+

A-list Events!

Wednesday, June 1st, 2016

Last Tuesday, we had an incredible A-list event called Classic Cordials and Cuisine: A lesson in the art of mixology. Our guests got to enjoy delicious food while our bartenders presented the history, science and art of the perfect cocktail. Three of our incredible mixologists re-created 4 delicious cocktails and paired them with exquisite food cooked by our head chef.

The event started out with the delicious Cucumber and Basil Gimlet paired with a Cucumber Salad in a Gin Dressing.

The next drink was a Bulleit Rye Mint Julep paired with Fried Green Tomatoes topped with a Mint Salsa.

Our main drink and entree was the Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned paired with your choice of a Bourbon Glazed Beef Tenderloin or a Bourbon Glazed Salmon.

The dessert portion of the evening consisted of a Ketel One Orange Creamsicle Martini paired with a Gran Marnier infused Graham Cracker Crust Cheesecake.

Everyone who attended this incredible event received a special gift bag including the drink recipes of all the delicious cocktails mentioned above.

This event was such a big success that we are going to be planning another A-list event coming up in July with margaritas!

If you are interested in attending the next A-list event, please go to our website and sign up for our e-mail newsletter to stay informed!
